HISTORY OF TAXONOMIC MYCOLOGY IN BELARUS:
A BIBLIOGRAPHIC SURVEY

Myxomycota and Plasmodiophoromycota

The earliest sources including Myxomycetes records belong to the 19th century. The work by Jundziłł (1830) listed 14 species, possibly found in today Belarus area. Twardowska (1885) published 37 species collected in Pinsk region and near Lyntupy (present day Pastavy district). In 1888 Błoński reported 2 myxomycetes for nowaday Belarus part of Belavezhskaya Pushcha, and 1 species with insufficient data on locality. Eleven species were included in a paper by Błoński (1889), found in Belarus part of Belavezhskaya Pushcha, and additionally 8 species from this work had unclear data on localities.

Seven myxomycete species from northeast Belarus were published by Kastory (1912). Jarocki (1925) published a rich list of myxomycetes, including 80 species collected in northern part of Belavezhskaya Pushcha Great Forest, but the exact data on collection localities were not noted. Wyssotzky et al. (1925) in an account on botanical expedition reported single Arcyria species. In the papers by Lebedeva there are 1 myxomycete species (1925, Erstes...), 15 species, from which several with notations on morphology (1925, Zweites...), and 2 species (1935). Two myxomycete species were recorded by Tupenevitch (1932, Die parasitischen…). Three myxomycete species were published by Tumiłowiczówna (1935).

A curious occurring Physarum nutans on living plant organs was reported in books by Gorlenko and Pan'ko (1967; 1972). Twenty-seven species, 10 of which were new for Belarus, were listed in the manuscript by Serzhanina and Gapienko deposited in VINITI (Serzhanina & Gapienko, 1980, To the myxomycetes…). Two speies were mentioned in book by Belomesyatseva (2004).

In 1980s and 1990s myxomycetes were studies mostly by Yevgenii Moroz. Sixty-two species collected in Narach Lake region were published in the first paper (Shukanov et al., 1988). Further the results were summarized in the two taxonomic lists (Moroz & Novozhilov, 1988, 1994). The survey by Moroz & Novozhilov (1988) includes 102 species both reported in literature earlier and identified for the first time in Moroz's collections. The article by Moroz & Novozhilov (1994) contributed 30 species recorded for Belarus for the first time. The most recent contribution is a conference abstract by Moroz (1996), listing 95 species recorded in Belarus Poozer'e physiographic province, of which 49 species are reported for the first time for the republic.

Plasmodiophora brassicae (Plasmodiophoromycota) was reported by Jaczewski (1907: 71) in Minsk province, by Dorogin (1912) in kichen-gardens of Belavezhskaya Pushcha region, and by Kuprevich (1931, Fungi...). The species was described by Gorlenko (1969: 53).
