Description. A protected natural landscape near the north coast of western Cuba, established in 1975, valued for its scenic quality, honey-production and potential for use in environmental education. Established in 1975. Administered by the Empresa Nacional para la Protección de la Flora y la Fauna, Cuba.

Lists of animals and plants of the protected area are included in the management plan.

Problems. Absence of a perimeter fence. No transport for reserve workers. Lack of resources to realise projects. Lack of signposting within and outside the area. Absence of specialists to identify and manage the area's biodiversity. Lack of storage facilities for potable water and water for fighting forest fires. Poor communication systems. No trained workers for plant nurseries. No silviculturalists. No reserve wardens.Total absence of training programmes for reserve personnel. Dangerous fires produced by local people. Illicit felling by local people.

Project work. A 39 page management plan was produced with support from the Darwin Initiative project Biodiversity Conservation in Cuba.
