Description. A natural monument at the western end of eastern Cuba, notable for its petrified forest. Extent 126 ha. Established in 2001. Administered by the Empresa Nacional para la Protección de la Flora y la Fauna, Cuba.

Biodiversity. The purpose of this monument being preservation of a petrified forest, the management plan contains almost no information about living organisms.

Problems. Land use incompatible with preservation of the petrified forest. Poor landscaping of site. Need for re-afforestation of parts of the site away from the petrified forest.

Project work. A 44 page management plan was produced with support from the Darwin Initiative project Biodiversity Conservation in Cuba.
