FUNGI OF UKRAINE, RHYTISMATALES

TERRIERA B. Erikss. Rhytismataceae. 1 Ukrainian species on Vaccinium.

Terriera cladophila (Lév.) B. Erikss. [click here for picture]. Status. Native; 2 records since 16 July 1994. Months. July. Regions. Zakarpatska. Habitat. Fruiting on pale often rather brittle dead attached twigs, and dead bark on living twigs of Vaccinium myrtillus; usually most abundant where the Vaccinium is growing more than 15 cm high, and particularly more than 30 cm high, though it can occasionally be found even on very small plants. Notes. Terriera cladophila may be distinguished from Lophodermium melaleucum (Fr.) De Not., the only similar species on twigs of Vaccinium myrtillus because its ascomata lack specialized lip cells lining the split. Lophodermium melaleucum appears to be very rare on twigs of Vaccinium, though it is common on other parts of the plant. Worldwide. On dead twigs and dead bark of Vaccinium myrtillus; widely distributed in central, northern and western Europe. References. Minter (1997e) [description]; Minter & Dudka (1996) [Ukrainian records].
