Irina Aleksandrovna Bunkina

Irina Aleksandrovna Bunkina was a Doctor of Biological Sciences and a Professor. In 1948 she graduated from Sverdlovsk Agricultural Institute. She then worked for two years as an agronomist in districts of the Primorsky krai. At the end of 1949 she began postgraduate study based at the Far East Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1953, she defended her thesis and was awarded the degree of Candidate of Biological Sciences. From 1953 to 1960, she worked as a junior scientist in the Far East Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1960, she moved to the Chair of Botany of the Dal'nevostochny [Far East] University, where she occupied the position of lecturer. From 1961 to 1977, she headed the Chair of Botany. In 1984, she defended her doctoral thesis and in 1987 was awarded the academic status of Professor.

During almost 40 years, I.A. Bunkina studied fungi of the Russian Far East. Her particular interests were Peronosporales and Ascomycetes, mainly conidial Erysiphales. She also studied fungal diseases of ginseng, important agricultural crops and ornamental plants.Her list of publications includes 46 articles, 3 monographs, and 3 popular scientific brochures.
