HEINRICH AUGUST DIETRICH

(4 November 1820 – 9 December 1897)

Born 4 November 1820 in Zwenkau (a small town, then 2000 people, about 15 km south of Leipzig). In Estonia: data in the Reval's (now: Tallinn) St Olaf's Church Person-book: August Heinrich Dietrich. Church Register data: married in October 1849, then his name was written: Adam August Heinrich Dietrich. When his first daughter was born, he was called (in the Merjamaa Parish Church Register in Estland) Heinrich August Dietrich; the same name on the titles of his 2 papers on cryptogams. About 1848-1857 he was the Inspector of Gardeners and Learned Gardener in the Heimar (Est.: Haimre) manor in the Estonian Province of the Russian Imperium, where he created a huge park in the English style. After this he was half a year in St Petersburg - working (as a guest? mycologist) in libraries and the herbarium of the Russian Academy of Sciences. After this he was the owner of a Market Garden in Reval (= Tallinn), one of the founders of the local Gardening Society; and an honorary citizen of Reval, dying there. [Contributed by E. Parmasto]
