Personal details. Cuban, female, year of birth 1945.

Qualifications. Graduated from Faculty of Biology, Havana University, 1969; PhD, V.L. Komarov Botanical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St Petersburg, 1979; long and broad experience in systematic mycology.

Current position. Principal Scientist, 1981 Present employer Instituto de Ecología y Sistemática (IES), CITMA. Head of the Scientific Division, Botanical Institute of the Cuban Academy of Sciences (1980 to 1986). Member of Scientific Council at Botanical Institute (1975 to 1986) and Institute of Ecology and Systematics (IES) since 1986. Member of the Expert Group Project National Study on Biological Biodiversity of the Cuban Republic Institute of Ecology and Systematics, CITMA, 1995. Currently leading national project Diversity and conservation of fungi in Cuban protected areas (2002-2005).

Expertise. Mycology, expert mycologist specialising in systematic and ecology of aphyllophoraceous fungi; experience of data-entry for computerized biological recording. Much teaching and field experience particularly Cuba and Mexico. Co-editor of the Conservation Strategy of Fungal Diversity in Cuba. Relevant national result: Sierra del Rosario Forest Ecology, 1990. Distinguished result within the Cuban Academy of Sciences: The cultivation of the edible fungi Pleurotus, 1993. National Relevant Research due to the National Study on Biological Biodiversity of the Cuban Republic (GEF/PNUMA), as part of the authors team. Scientific member in the following projects: Fungi of the Caribbean (Darwin Initiative, 1997-2000); Fungal Diversity at the Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve, Cuba; Electronic Distribution Maps of Caribbean Fungi (British Council, 2001-2003); Biodiversity Conservation in Cuba (Darwin Initiative, 2001-2004); Fungal Diversity in Ecological Reserve "Alturas de Banao", Escambray, Cuba (2002-2004).

Scientific events. Active participation in many different scientific events, attendance at more than 30 international and national congresses, including First, Second, Third, Fourth Latin-American Mycological Congresses (La Habana, 1993; La Habana, 1996; Caracas, 1999; Xalapa, 2002); over 50 publications.

Founder member of Latin-American Association of Mycology (ALM); Executive Secretary of the V Latin-American Botanical Congress; Vice-president of the I Symposium on Botany (Cuba) and Executive Secretary of the III Symposium on Botany (Cuba); Member of the Latin-American Society of Botany (ALB); Awarded with the Natural Sciences National Prix Tomás Romay given at the VI National Scientific Forum 1982.
