MICHAEL FRANCIS MADELIN

(1931 – 3 December 2007)

Brief biographical note. Michael began his academic career as a lecturer at Imperial College before moving to Bristol University in 1962 where he was Reader in Mycology until his retirement in 1991. He made substantial contributions to mycological research and was President of the British Mycological Society in 1983, where his gentlemanly and genial character made him popular in this office. He received two awards from Imperial College, the Forbes Memorial Medal and Prize in 1951 and the Huxley Memorial Medal and Prize in 1967. He died leaving his wife, five children and thirteen grandchildren.
