TAISIYA L’VOVNA NIKOLAYEVA

(1902 – 1982)

Taisiya Lvovna Nikolayeva studied in a worker's faculty, then at Petrograd [St Petersburg] University. After graduating from the university she worked in the Botanical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences until she retiring to a pension. At first she studied wood. Later she started research of fungi, mainly wood-destroying species. During many years she worked in close contact with the prominent polypore expert Prof. A.S. Bondartsev. During the last decades of her scientific activity she paid special attention to the Hydnaceae, the results of her research being summarized in the book. She also studied the species of Verticillium causing wilt of cotton. Her last years before retirement were devoted to research on the genus Tomentella (Aphyllophorales).
