Qualifications. Forest Engineer, Universidad Austral de Chile, awarded in the Universidad de Chile: December, 1967; Doctor of Forest Sciences, Georgia Augusta Universität zu Göttingen: March, 1973; MEd, special subject Educational Assessments, Universidad de La Frontera (Temuco, Chile): December, 2001.

Teaching experience. Lecturer in the Faculty of Forest Sciences, Universidad Austral de Chile since 1982. Specialist Lecturer for Doctoral Programmes in the Universidad Austral de Chile since 1996. Lecturing on undergraduate courses for the degree of Forest Engineering, and at postgraduate level for the degrees of MSc (Forest Resources), MSc (Environmental Management of Forestry Projects) and at inter-university level for the degree of PhD (Forest Sciences). Sole Supervisor of 28 undergraduate theses, Co-Supervisor of 7 undergraduate theses, and Co-Supervisor of 2 postgraduate theses. Relator en 17 cursos de actualización en pre y posgrado. Co-Director of the Inter-university Doctoral Course in Forest Sciences and Convenor of the Academic Committee supervising it.

Research Experience. Participant as Leader or Co-researcher of 36 projects in the area of Forest Pathology and Professional Development, the projects financed by the private sector, the Department of Research & Development of the Universidad Austral de Chile, Fondecyt, Fondef, the Red Latinoamericana de Botánica, and the Corporación Nacional Forestal. The results of these activities includes 40 publications as author or co-author in refereed journals, 17 chapters in books, 37 presentations at congresses, 25 articles in serial publications without peer-review and 41 abstracts. Project evaluator for Fondecyt, Fondef, and the Research Boards of the Universidad Austral de Chile, the Universidad de Concepción and the Universidad de La Frontera. Editorial Board member of 2 national level-forestry journals, and Organizing Committee member of 4 national-level congresses. Research visits to Austria, Catalonia (2), Czech Republic, England (4), Germany (4), Scotland, USA, Wales.

Academic Administration. Five times Director of the School of Forest Engineering, Director of the Office for Technical Teaching in Forestry for 8 years. Vice-Dean, Academic Secretary of the Faculty, and Director of the Silvicultural Institute. Member of various University commissions at faculty level. Vice-rector (Academic) for 18 months and, in that capacity, responsible for Institutional Accreditation, and Director of two Mecesup projects. Evaluator of Mecesup projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Currently Convenor of the Undergraduate Level Mecesup Committee. Evaluator of institutional and professional development projects for the Consejo Superior de Educación and Mineduc. Currently Head of the Office for Implementation of Institutional Projects.
