(1893 – 1983)

Nikolay Georgiyevich Zaprometov

Nikolay Georgiyevich Zaprometov - outstanding mycologist and plant pathologist. He is founder of mycological and plant pathology school in Central Asia.

In 1916, N.G. Zaprometov graduated in the Faculty of Physics & Mathematics of St Petersburg University. Being a student he worked at the Cryptogamic Laboratory under the direction of Professor Gobi. His teacher in plant pathology was I.L. Serbinov. His knowledge in this discipline N.G. Zaprometov improved at the Central Plant Pathology Station of St Petersburg Botanical Garden, where he worked during next two years. He also took consultations of the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences A.A. Yachevsky.

Since 1914, N.G. Zaprometov got an appointment of trainee, and then of expert at the Department of Agriculture on Mycology and Phytopathology. In summer-time the Department sent him for inspection of fungal diseases to Turkestan.

In 1916, N.G. Zaprometov was designated as a head of the Plant Pathology Department of the Turkestan Station of Plant Protection in Tashkent. Later on he became one of the founders of the Agricultural Faculty of Turkestan University, which was organized in 1918 and deputy Dean of this faculty.

Since 1920, N.G. Zaprometov was lecturer at Central Asiatic State University /CASU/ and the head of Turkestan Plant Pathology Station of People's Commissariat of Agriculture. In 1920-1931 he was the head of the Plant Pathology Department of Central Asiatic Station of Plant Protection.

In 1929-1931, N.G. Zaprometov was founder of the Chair of Plant Protection CASU and Professor of this chair. In 1931-1943 besides CASU, N.G. Zaprometov was Professor of two Institutes - the ALL-Union Scientific-Research Institute of Cotton-Growing and Silkworm Breeding Scientific-Research Institute.

From 1943 to 1972, N.G. Zaprometov - Professor, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, head of the Chair of Plant Pathology of Tashkent Agricultural Institute, member of Academic Council of the ALL-Union Scientific-Research Institute of Cotton-Growing, honoured worker of science and technique of Uzbekistan. He took numerous governmental awards: Order of Lenin, Order of October Revolution, Order of Labour Red Banner and others.

N.G. Zaprometov trained for Uzbekistan and other countries of Central Asia three Doctors and 15 Candidate of Sciences. Besides of knowing English and German, N.G. Zaprometov could give lectures in Uzbek.

The main line of investigations: parasitic mycoflora of Central Asia /systematics and biology of fungi /, diseases of southern agricultural crops /cotton-plant, mulberry, vine, fiber crops etc./

He was an author of more then 120 publications.
