Personal details. Cuban, male, year of birth 1952.

Qualifications. Graduate degree: Licenciatura (Biological Sciences), 1983, Havana University; MSc, Institute of Ecology & Systematics, 1999.

Current position. Scientific research in the Mycological Laboratory of the Institute of Ecology & Systematics since 1983.

Expertise. Mycology; expert mycologist specialising in the systematics of Agaricales, Tricholomataceae, and edible mushrooms. Collaborator in the taxonomic study of the Aphyllophorales fungi of Cuba; experience of fieldwork with Agaricales and Aphyllophorales in many expeditions to diferent areas of the country. Collaborator in the Conservation Strategy of Fungal Diversity in Cuba and the Flora of the Greater Antilles (New York Botanic Garden). Science Academy of Cuba award for work on cultivation of edible mushrooms (1994). Experience of data-entry for computerized biological recording. Scientific member in the following projects: Fungi of the Caribbean (Darwin Initiative, 1997-2000); Fungal Diversity at the Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve, Cuba; Electronic Distribution Maps of Caribbean Fungi (British Council, 2001-2003); Biodiversity Conservation in Cuba (Darwin Initiative, 2001-2004); Fungal Diversity in Ecological Reserve "Alturas de Banao", Escambray, Cuba (2002-2004).

Scientific events. Active participation in many different scientific events, attendance at 30 international and national congresses, including the First, Second and Third Latin-American Mycological Congresses (La Habana, 1993; La Habana, 1996; Caracas, 1999); ten publications.
