  • Personal details. Ukrainian, date of birth 1954, male.

  • Qualifications. Doctor of Biological Science.

  • Current position. Deputy Director, Department of Mycology, M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

  • Expertise. Botany, mycology; specialist in powdery mildews; considerable expertise in photography; author or co-author of more then 150 publications (including 12 monographs). Participant in Darwin Initiative projects Fungi of Ukraine (1994-1996, author of powdery mildew entries in major checklist produced from that project), Biodiversity Information in the former Soviet Union (1999-2002) and Recovering Ukraine's Lost Steppe (2002-2005). Participant in INTAS Infrastructure Action Biodiversity Information in the former Soviet Union (1999-2002). Member of Organizing Committee of Ukraine's first National Conference for Conservation of Biodiversity, Kaniv, 1997. Ukraine co-ordinator for UK FCO Environment Protection Fund project Saving Ukraine's Last Steppe Land. Member of Organizing Committee of XIV Congress of European Mycologists. Founder Member of the European Mycological Association.

  • Languages. Ukrainian, Russian, German, English (basic).

  • Expeditions & fieldwork. Ukrainian Co-ordinator of Royal Geographical Society's first Ralph Brown Expedition (1998); member and organizer of numerous expeditions in Ukraine, Russian far east, northern Russia, Altai and Caucasus mountains; extensive experience of canoe expeditions on rivers and lakes in Ukraine.
