Lirula macrospora. This photograph shows a single ascoma of Lirula macrospora on a dead needle of Picea abies (Norway spruce), collected near Lillehammer, Norway. Being moist, the ascoma has opened by a longitudinal split in its black covering layer. Its hymenium is thereby revealed, and the shiny tips of individual asci can just be discerned. June 1988.
