Aristolochia glandulosa Kickx

Hirsute liana; stems occasionally reddish; leaves 7-12 cm long, 4-7 wide, cordate-hastate, apex obtuse, base deeply cordate, in fresh material the base is red, margin planate, has numerous hooked hairs, primary and secondary veins marked on the upper side, prominent on the underside; petiole 1.8-2.5 cm long, slightly pubescent, reddish on the adaxial face up to the base of the leaf; peduncles 4.5-5.5 cm long, densely pubescent; perigone straight or slightly arced; utricle globous, 1-1.3 cm long, 0.8 cm diameter; apex slightly cuspidate, in fresh material dark purple with bright yellow-bordered areolas, each one with a filiform, peltate, capitate appendix 0.2 cm long with spherical extremity; capsule 2.5-2.8 cm long, 1.5 cm diameter; seeds ovoid, 7-8 mm long, 6-6.5 mm wide, with side-wing; the raphe laterally dilated with membranous elongations of darker colour.

Species endemic to central-western Cuba. Grows in scrubland and woodland, mostly on chalk soil. Abundant.
