View of the valley of Viñales and Los Mogotes

The valley of Viñales National Park, located in the Sierra de los Órganos range (map), in Pinar del Río province, is one of the most famous landscapes in Cuba and the Caribbean. Mainly formed by limestone karst peaks (Los Mogotes), oak and pine forest (pinares) with specialised and interesting plant life, and a valley with the most famous tobacco plantations in the world, as well as other crops, it constitutes a unique place for botanists, mycologists, zoologists, ecologists, or for anyone with a love for nature. We hope to provide an easy way to discover and identify trees, bushes, and other plants of this famous region. On this site you can find a list of plants, identification keys, a list of vernacular names, and pictorial guides to general habit, leaves, and bark, with links to descriptions and photographs of over 150 species, 43 of which are plants endemic to Cuba.
