Stem upright, decumbent or climbing, mostly hairless, up to 1 m; leaves elliptic, elliptic-lanceolate or ovate, 2-10 cm, pointed or shortly acuminate, elongated at base, hairless; petiole 1 cm or less; spikes slim, interrupted, with peduncles, 5-12 cm; bracts lanceolate, acuminate, persistent, 5 mm; calyx 1 cm, with stipitate glands; corolla white, tube slim, 2 cm, lobes obovate, mucronate, extended, 5-7 mm; capsule linear-prism shaped, 7 mm, with rostrum.

Common names: malacara, pega pollo.
